The Aftermath of Cucalorus

So last year I went to Cucalorus alone with a plan of trying to network. This year, I went with friends and decided not to network. I know that wasn't the assignment, I was suppose to interact with all people in the industry. But, and I mean this with all sincerity, I hated this year's Cucalorus. I had mixed thoughts on last year's, however I blamed the political aftermath on my cynicism and I saw the Love Witch which was my favorite film of 2016. This year I was absolutely annoyed with the whole event. I thought the emcees where incredibly pretentious than ever. One spent 3 minutes strumming on his guitar before making a sexual assault joke (classy). Their desire to be the "quirky film festival" fell into self parody to being sad to me wanting to rip my eyes out. Just be serious/professional for one goddamn minute! I'm not a filmmaker, and I spent my time throughout this class/blog emphasizing the fact that I never will be. However if I was, I would not submit my film here. They prefer a lot of films that I would classify as "hipster white people". The 6 films I saw all catered to this, and man did it get old fast. I don't care for pretentious rich people talking about their first world problems, nor do I care about people who claim to be "real" and the voice of my generation because they don't shop at IKEA. If I wanted to watch this, I would watch Girls, and I fucking LOATHE Girls! But at least watching Girls would save me some cash. I was grateful that the Tragedy Girls brought some joy to my time there. I did make an impression on one person in my desired field in the film industry, and that was Jillian Carney. Because I'm a self proclaimed Disney nerd, I told her how jealous I was of her going to Dapper Day and meeting Leslie Kay, a famous figure within the Disney fandom. She was pretty impressed with my knowledge and asked if I thought of working for them? I told her that I would love to be the next Leonard Matlin for them, and work as a Disney historian/archivist. She told me that I needed to come to LA before the end of June so she can give me a tour and introduce me to people. So Cucalorus, I hated the festival but you seemed to have got me a job. 1. Jillian is amazing. Go to LA and hang with her. Yes!

The rest of your experience seems to, unfortunately, be one that many people shared. :( Do consider writing feedback and letting them know how you felt.
